How to achieve your healthiest hair ever

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your healthiest hair ever?

We sat down with Kate Brown, the Director of Enigma Hair + Body located in Newcastle to find out how we can achieve our healthiest hair ever.

“At Enigma, our top priority is the health of your mane. From start to finish the salon ensures every measure is taken to create a look that you not only LOVE but also protects the integrity, strength, shine and overall condition of your locks” Kate explains.

“While some salons will encourage you to foil back to back, our highly trained stylists give honest, achievable and professional recommendations towards realistic and healthy hair goals. It’s really important to us to not over-promise on looks that will result in damage and take months to repair” says Kate.

Follow these top tips and be on your way to your healthiest hair ever.

Olaplex is your best friend

More than a buzzword, there is a reason that all professionals will recommend you include Olaplex in your hair routine.

The thing that makes Olaplex so great is the primary active ingredient “bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate” - let us break that down for you. This active ingredient is pretty darn clever and can actually repair the bonds of your hair that have been damaged during the lightning process.

However, it’s not just for bleaching. The bonds of our hair can also be damaged from using hot tools like straighteners, blow dryers and perming which makes it a perfect conditioning treatment for all.

Trim, trim baby

To ensure healthy hair, a trim every 6 weeks to dust off any split ends is key. And no, this isn’t just an excuse for your hairdresser to catch up with you - even though they love to do that too! What it does is it removes the open ends of the hair preventing tearing up through a healthy hair shaft.

In-salon treatments

Treatments don’t just smell good and feel nice they are really important in sealing each individual hair strand and hydrating your locks.

Gloss Toners

Gloss and clear toners are a step above any hair treatment you can do. They are super hydrating and conditioning and applied at the basin in the salon and left on for around 15 minutes. The gloss toner will seal down the cuticle and creates maximum shine.

Enigma recommends keeping your hair healthy and colour shiny to book in for a gloss toner between bleaching appointments. Especially if you have a big event or birthday before your next colour and want to be feeling super fresh!

Heat Protection

Last but definitely not least, the most important thing you can do - you can do it at home. And, that is using a heat protector.

Kate says the Kevin Murphy Heated Defense offers maximum protection to ensure your locks are never compromised.

Using heat without a protector makes colour fade super fast. If you think about it, some of our irons can heat up to 230 degrees and we bake cakes at that temperature. Burning hair is simply breaking hair - don’t throw away all the hard work and money spent at the salon by not using a heat protector at home.
